Reflection
Experience

Everything was completely new to me in the beginning and I found it very challenging to keep up with all the mass information. However, things gradually improved after I learned more about typography and specific software and gained much practice, feedback and corrections. I would like to thank Mr. Vinod for being very keen to give us useful feedback which broadened our design concepts and enhanced the overall learning experience. I also appreciate being able to learn from each other in a large class by sharing our ideas and getting feedback from the lecturer.

Observation

Before I learned typography, I tended to choose a font based solely on its aesthetic as a big reason to use it. After I learned some basics about typography, I realized that as a designer, we had to consider deeper regarding the theories than just create something beautiful but meaningless and functionless. I tend to analyze and dissect fonts such as typography, kerning, tracking, alignment, layout, readability, hierarchy, etc.

Findings

Time management and self-discipline were crucial to this class because I should ensure that I was able to get everything done, including updating our e-portfolio, watching pre-recorded lectures, and completing our assignments and readings within a limited time. In addition, I found typography strengthened my self-learning ability. For example, I had to learn new software like InDesign, Fontlab and create stickers for Telegram. I had to find additional solutions for the problems I encountered in the project because sometimes it is impossible for the lecturer to take care of all the students in a class. All of these are the valuable experiences I gained in this course, which will be of great help to my future design path.
