๐Ÿ‘‰ Observation

- Observation means being aware of your surroundings, paying attention to details, and analyzing them.

- Includes artifacts, daily happenings, the physical environment, etc.

- Observation is an active act of acquiring information through the senses, of a subject matter in its natural setting.

- Observation can be a major source of inspiration for designers and ideas for solutions to problems they see.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Tips for a sense of place

- Now think about where you are now, where you have been before, or a place that has left a lasting memory in your heart.

- How do you express how you feel about that place?

- Start by recording your observations - photos, journals, conversations with relevant people, etc.

Progress 1

Progress 2

Speaking of where I spend the longest time, it has to be in front of my desk. I spend a lot of time at my desk, whether it's reading, drawing, or doing homework, it becomes my daily workplace. It is also a favorite place for my cat to sleep, and it will always lie on the table coquettishly and play lazily. Hence, I decided to showcase the work based on daily happenings at my desk and searched for colour palettes to present my work.

Feedback

A good exploration of color schemes. The composition is suitable and matches the mind map that indicates the daily happenings and experiences at the desk. The way the design is placed in a portrait format establishes focus and detail. It is suggested to create a warmer atmosphere by adding the texture of the light from the lamp, creating a focal point for the foreground, emphasizing the playful cat, paints, books, and glasses.

Final Design Outcome

My desk has been with me for many unforgettable times, it's where I get inspired, where I work hard, and where I bond with my cat. Through observation,  each important and indispensable element of the desk were presented in detail, conveying an overview of my daily life. Harmonious warm tones and light textures are used throughout the work to create a warm and ordinary atmosphere.

Reflection

In Project 2, I went through the process of observing my surroundings and paying attention to small details, while keeping all design principles in mind during the progression. I explored some colour palettes to create the right vibe. With Dr. Jin Chi's feedback, I was able to push my designs further and improve some aspects of my artwork. Specifically, I learned to use lighting to guide the viewers' eyes to kitten, books, paints and glasses, which creates a visual hierarchy.
